Cherokee Civic Theatre will hold Open Auditions for the hilarious Classic Comedy "Arsenic & Old Lace" on Sunday August 24 @ 2:30pm and Monday August 25 @ 6:30pm.
Written by Joseph Kessellring, this spooky comedy centers on Mortimer Brewster who comes home to announce his impending marriage to Elaine - only to learn that his elderly aunts are quietly poisoning people they think "too alone and lonely". His brother Teddy is no help because he thinks he's President Theodore Roosevelt. As for his other brother Jonathan, well, he's doing time for crimes of his own. But Jonathan has escaped prision and comes back to turn the Victorian homestead into the new center for his criminal activities. Can Mortimer get the police to capture Jonathan, convince his aunts to find other charitable work, get Teddy to stop blowing his bugle - and still make it to the church on time to marry Elaine?
There are lead, featured & cameo roles for men ages 18-65 as well as one female role for 18+ and two female roles for 45+. The director suggests viewing the excellent 1941 film of "Arsenic & Old Lace" starring Cary Grant to get a feel for the fast-paced fun.
The show will run October 11, 12, 18, & 19 at Cherokee Civic Theatre. Director is Sheilah O'Heaney and co-Producers are Laura Cunningham & Debra Petri. This prodction is presented through an arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
